Hello! My name is Emma Chen, and I am in Grade 10, residing in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. I have had the privilege of playing the violin for approximately 10 years and am a member of the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra. I have also explored various instruments, including the piano for three years, the flute for a school semester, and I have more recently taken up the erhu. Last year, my performances alongside other talented musicians at senior homes were particularly meaningful, and I found myself truly enjoying the music, the collaboration, and the interactions. Outside of music, I enjoy engaging in activities such as ping-pong and, especially, tennis, in which I participate in tournaments all year round. I also love challenging myself through various hobbies, including solving Rubik's cubes, juggling, performing two-finger push-ups, and reciting digits of pi (160 currently). These pursuits continually inspire me to learn and expand my abilities. I firmly believe that music has the incredible power to inspire, uplift, and unite us. Through Chords of Care, I encourage everyone to come together and share their talents to create positive change and bring joy to our communities.

Hello everyone! My name is Grace Zhao, and I am a Grade 9 student living in Nanaimo, British Columbia. I began playing piano at the age of 8, and it has since become my greatest passion. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to participate in a lot of events, such as the Mid-Island Musical Festivals, recitals, and performances at senior homes. These experiences have not only allowed me to improve my musical skills but also deepened my love for it. I believe music is something that brings people together, and brings others happiness. When I heard of Chords of Care, I instantly knew I had to join and be a part of it. Outside of my musical interests, I enjoy playing sports like tennis and badminton, and I love spending time with my friends. I’m looking forward to being part of an organization that uses music to spread joy. Through Chords of Care, I am excited to share my love for music with others while learning from those around me.

Olivia Wang
Co-District Director
Hello everyone, I’m Olivia Wang, a grade 9 student living in Nanaimo, B.C, Canada. I started learning piano when I was 3 and instantly fell in love with it. I’ve been learning classical music for years and I’ve been performing in several recitals, and have also been selected to the provincial festival 2025. Ever since I was little, music has become a huge part of my life. It’s something that I can always be passionate about, and used to express my feelings without saying anything. When I first heard of the Chords Of Care, I immediately knew that this is what I want to be part of. I believe that music is the best thing to heal and bring people together, especially across generations. Outside of music, you can find me playing tennis or ping pong 🏓 , or just hanging out with my friends. I want to use my music to not only perform, but to actually CARE—to sit there, to play a song, and bring others the same kind of joy that music always brings me.
